Overview
Where LVK's hydrochloric acid comes from
Chlorinating acetic acid to make monochloroacetic acid releases hydrogen chloride gas. At Choutuppal that off-gas is captured in water, which turns it into hydrochloric acid instead of a waste stream.
LVK dilutes this acid to the strength each customer asks for, generally 18–22 %, and supplies it as cleaning acid. It is the same strong mineral acid sold across India as toilet cleaning acid, bathroom cleaning acid or muriatic acid for floors, tiles and sanitary ware.
Most of it leaves the plant as a private-label product: made and sold by LVK Pharma, packed in 1 L bottles and 5 L cans that carry the customer's brand. The rest is supplied in bulk.
One process, two products
Chlorine and acetic acid react to give monochloroacetic acid and hydrogen chloride. LVK sells the first to pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturers and recovers the second as hydrochloric acid, so the plant puts both outputs to use.

Never mix
Never mix with bleach (sodium hypochlorite) or any other cleaning chemical: hydrochloric acid and bleach together release toxic chlorine gas.
Protect yourself
Wear rubber gloves and eye protection. Use in a ventilated space; do not breathe the fumes.
Surfaces
Do not use on marble, granite or other natural stone, or on aluminium, chrome or other metals: the acid etches stone and corrodes metal.
Storage
Keep in the original, closed container, upright, in a cool place and out of reach of children. Never transfer into food or drink bottles.
First aid
Skin or eyes: rinse at once with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical help. If swallowed: rinse the mouth, do not induce vomiting, seek medical help immediately.
